will be refurbished into a base for cultural exchanges between Australia and
Echigo-Tsumari. For this Triennial, three artists and a curator will work in residence in

Juan Davila exhibition and talks
Since 2007, Juan Davila has completed a series of paintings depicting Wagner’s Ring cycle. A Man Renounces Love, 2010 (on display in the Smorgon Plaza) from the Opera, Das Rheingold, explores Alberich who steals the Rhinemaidens’ gold and renounces love.
Dr Kate Briggs will give a series of lectures on Juan Davila’s Ring cycle paintings, addressing the mythological and psychological aspects of his work.
Talks venue: 909 Drummond Street, North Carlton, Thursdays: 21, 28 November, 12 December, 2pm. FREE

The brainchild of Melbourne gallerists Vasili Kaliman (Station), Geoff Newton (Neon Parc), and Vikki McInnes (Sarah Scout Presents), SPRING 1883, will take place at Melbourne’s historic Hotel Windsor from August 14-17, 2014.
The fair draws on the traditions of New York’s hotel-based Gramercy Park Fair and will present the best of contemporary art practice from Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and the United States.
